Gorleston Lifeboat "SAMARBETA" 14-10

Trent class built by Green Marine and launched in 1996. She has just returned from an extensive £300,000 overhaul at Carrolls yard in Ballhack, Ireland, including new five bladed propellers and rebuilding of the 850hp M.A.N. engines.

The name Samarbeta is Swedish for "Working together"
and was chosen in recognition of the Volvo motor companies major contribution to finance her build

Seen several of them around and they are powerful and impressive lifeboats.
Sponsored by Volvo, but fitted with MAN engines?

I agree, it does seem strange and I know Volvo do make marine engines but I dont know if they make them that big.I've often wondered why the R.N.L.I.
have'nt got their own boat building/repair yard,
seems strange they take them all the way to

The Volvo connection (which has nothing to do with Volvo Penta marine engines) is that Samarbeta was purchased by the RNLI after being given cars by Volvo Car UK Limited, which were then raffled. The legacies left by Elizabeth Longman and Constance Rogers were also put towards the purchase of this boat.
