Starfire was built in Italy by the Benetti boatyard and is 178 feet or 54 metres in length. She operates charter yacht cruises in the Mediterranean & Caribbean. M/Y Starfire was launched in 1998, and has since undergone two refits, one in 2002 and the other in 2004. Her 2004 refit saw an interior styling transformation from Traditional Orient to Art Deco. This refit also saw the addition of at anchor and underway mechanical stabilization, which has created a true advance in Starfire’s cruising performance. She also has a steel hull and a lighter aluminum superstructure for added comfort.
She comfortably accommodates up to 12 charter guests in 6 cabins.
Beam: 31 ft (9.4 m), Crew: 12, Engines: 2 x Deutz 6 cylinder, Cruising speed 12 knots, max. speed 15 knots.
The Delaware monument can be seen behind the bow; there are two of these, one in Gothenburg and the other in Wilmington, Delaware. Sculpted by Carl Milles, they commemmorate the emigration of about 700-800 Swedish people to the United States from 1638 to 1655, setting up a colony in Delaware.
The later emigration to the USA and Canada comprised about 1.3 million Swedes, between 1821 and 1930, but of these about 200,000 eventually returned to Sweden. Only Norway and Ireland had larger numbers of emigrants to North America.
